Heavy weight or medium weight? It depends on the dish, not the budget.
The difference is real and customers notice it. Medium weight cutlery flexes and can snap on anything that needs cutting or scooping against resistance — chicken, rice packed tight, anything from the freezer. Heavy weight holds up. At a small premium per case of 1,000, the upgrade costs about six-tenths of a cent per piece.
The practical split most kitchens land on: heavy weight forks and knives, medium weight spoons. Spoons rarely encounter resistance, so the medium weight is genuinely fine there and it takes the average cost back down.
If your menu is soup, curry or rice-forward, spoons are your highest-volume piece and the medium weight case is the value buy. If you are selling anything that needs cutting on a plate, do not put a medium-weight knife in the bag.

When a pre-wrapped cutlery kit is worth it
The pre-wrapped kit — knife, fork, spoon, napkin, salt and pepper in one sealed sleeve — costs considerably more per meal than loose cutlery. It buys you two things: speed (one item into the bag instead of five) and hygiene optics, which still matter to a segment of customers.
It is usually worth it for delivery-heavy operations where packing time is the bottleneck, and for institutional or catering orders where a sealed set is expected. For counter service where the customer takes their own cutlery from a caddy, loose is far cheaper and there is no benefit.

What is the difference between heavy and medium weight?
Heavy weight is thicker and stiffer — it resists snapping when cutting or scooping. Medium weight is adequate for soft foods and soup but flexes under load. Heavy weight costs slightly more per 1,000 than medium weight.
How many pieces come in a case?
Standard cases are 1,000 pieces for loose forks, knives and spoons. The pre-wrapped kit case count differs — we confirm it on your quote.
Do you sell forks, knives and spoons separately?
Yes, every piece is a separate SKU so you can order the ratio your menu actually uses rather than a fixed mixed case.
